Privacy Policy
How Horizons Language handles learning identifiers, submitted results, technical data and third-party services.
1. Who is responsible for the platform
Horizons Language is operated by Federico La Ferrara, based in Brazil. For privacy questions or requests, contact horizons.idioms@gmail.com.
2. Scope of this policy
This policy explains how personal data may be handled when you visit Horizons Language, use interactive learning activities, submit results, or interact with external media and services. Horizons is currently an educational platform and does not currently offer paid subscriptions through the site.
3. Data we may process
- Learning identifiers: the name entered by the learner.
- Learning activity data: quiz title, answers, score, percentage, feedback summaries and submission timestamps where applicable.
- Technical data: ordinary request and connection information processed by hosting and infrastructure providers when the site is delivered.
- Browser storage: limited local or session storage used by some activities for progress, interface state, preferences or notice acknowledgement.
4. Why data is used
Data may be used to:
- deliver and operate interactive language-learning activities;
- show progress, feedback and scores;
- allow the tutor to review submitted learning results;
- maintain security, reliability and troubleshooting;
- respond to privacy, legal or support requests.
Depending on the context, processing may rely on the performance of a requested educational service, legitimate interests in operating and improving the learning platform, legal obligations, or consent where applicable.
5. Result submissions and Google services
Some tests and interactive roleplays include a “Submit results” function. When used, the activity may send the learner identifier, answers, activity title and score information through Google Apps Script to a Google Sheets workflow used for teaching administration and progress review.
Submission is triggered by the learner using the submit function. Horizons asks learners not to submit sensitive personal information in the name field.
6. Hosting and third-party services
Horizons Language uses third-party infrastructure and content services. Depending on the page and the learner’s actions, these can include Cloudflare for site delivery, Google services for result submissions and fonts, CDNFonts for certain web fonts, SoundCloud for selected audio, YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode for selected video lessons, and third-party hosts for some images and media resources.
When a browser requests a resource from a third-party service, that service may receive ordinary technical request information such as IP address, browser/device information, requested resource, referrer information and timestamps, according to the provider’s own systems and policies.
7. International data transfers
Because Horizons uses global cloud and content-delivery services, personal data and technical request information may be processed in countries other than the learner’s country. Where data-protection law applies, relevant transfer rules and safeguards should be considered by the involved service providers and controller.
8. Retention
Learning-result records are kept only for as long as reasonably needed for teaching administration, progress review, record integrity and related legitimate needs. A fixed automatic deletion schedule is not currently implemented across every historical Google Sheet. Learners may request deletion of identifiable learning-result records at any time.
Browser storage used locally on a learner’s device remains subject to browser or device controls described in the Cookies & Storage Policy.
9. Children and young learners
Horizons is designed for language learning and may be used by young learners under teacher or parent guidance. The platform does not intentionally request a date of birth, home address, telephone number or full legal name. Young learners should use a short first name when a name is requested.
Parents or guardians may contact Horizons to ask questions or request access, correction or deletion of identifiable learning records.
10. Your privacy rights
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to request information about processing, access personal data, correct inaccurate data, request deletion or anonymisation where applicable, object to certain processing, withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis, or contact the relevant supervisory authority.
Requests can be sent to horizons.idioms@gmail.com. Horizons may need enough information to identify the relevant learning record before fulfilling a request.
11. Security
Reasonable organisational and technical measures are used to protect the platform and learning records. No online system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Access to administrative accounts and learning-result records should be limited to authorised persons.
12. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the platform changes, new services are added, or legal and technical requirements evolve. The update date shown at the top of this page will be revised when material changes are made.
