Cookies & Storage Policy
How Horizons uses browser storage and selected third-party media without advertising profiling.
1. Our current approach
Horizons Language is currently designed without advertising technology, behavioural advertising profiles, Google Analytics or Meta Pixel. The platform uses limited browser storage and selected third-party services to provide educational functionality.
2. Essential and functional browser storage
Some activities use browser technologies such as localStorage or session storage to support learning functions. Examples can include:
- remembering exercise progress or interface state;
- storing temporary learning preferences;
- preventing repeated actions in some interfaces;
- remembering that the privacy notice has already been dismissed.
These items are not used by Horizons for advertising or cross-site behavioural profiling. Learners can clear site storage through browser settings, although doing so may reset local progress or preferences.
3. External media
YouTube
Selected English Drills use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced embed domain. The embedded player is not loaded by Horizons until the learner clicks the “Load video” button.
SoundCloud
Selected World Cup Grammar Stories use SoundCloud audio. The SoundCloud player API and audio player are loaded only after the learner presses the activity’s audio button. This avoids a site-wide media setting that could accidentally disable learning features.
4. Fonts and remote resources
Some pages load fonts or images from third-party hosts, including Google Fonts, CDNFonts and external image hosts. Those requests may involve ordinary connection data being sent to the relevant provider. These resources are used to deliver the visual and educational experience, not for Horizons advertising profiling.
5. Result-submission services
Google Apps Script and Google Sheets may be used when a learner actively submits results from an activity. This is a learning-result workflow rather than an advertising-cookie system. More information is available in the Privacy Policy.
6. Managing storage in your browser
Browser settings normally allow you to inspect, block or delete cookies and site storage. Blocking all storage can affect progress-saving or interface features. Clearing Horizons site data may remove locally saved activity state.
7. Privacy notice acknowledgement
The first-visit privacy notice uses a small localStorage entry named horizons_privacy_notice_ack_v1
to remember that the learner clicked “Continue”. This is used only to avoid showing the same informational notice on every page visit.
8. Updates
This policy will be reviewed when new analytics, subscription systems, payment functions, advertising technology or other major services are introduced.
