Day 6-2: JFK Check-In + Bag Drop / Security + Gate Document Check + Boarding

Can you check in at JFK, drop your bag through to Rome, clear security, pass the gate document check, and board calmly?
How it works

Read, listen, or speak your way through a realistic international departure sequence at JFK Terminal 8. Choose the reply you would actually say at check-in, bag drop, security, the gate document check, and boarding.

Some answers are calm, clear, and practical. Other answers are too vague, too rushed, or misunderstand everyday U.S. airport phrases such as “checked bag”, “final destination”, “tagged through”, “connection”, “security checkpoint”, “carry-on”, “liquids”, “boarding group”, “overhead bin”, and “under the seat”.

You can recover by using repair language such as: “Sorry, let me clarify”, “My final destination is Rome”, “Can you confirm the bag is tagged through to FCO?”, “I’ll take that out now”, “Here is my passport and boarding pass”, and “I’ll wait until my group is called.” At the end, review your result and submit it to your teacher/tutor.

Scene context

  • You need to check in, drop your suitcase, and confirm that the checked bag goes through to Rome FCO even though you connect at London Heathrow.
  • After check-in, you must follow security screening instructions, show passport and boarding pass at the gate document check, and board when your group is called.
  • Your goal is to complete all JFK departure procedures smoothly and board the flight to London Heathrow with everything clear and organized for the connection to Rome.
